Program Requirements

Students enrolled in Asia-Pacific Studies are required to satisfy the degree requirements of both the disciplinary department and the collaborative program. The Asia-Pacific requirements can be met concurrently with, or in addition to, home unit requirements.

The Master's program degree requirements in Asia-Pacific Studies include:

1.  A year-long, interdisciplinary core seminar (ASI1000Y "Issues in
Asia-Pacific Studies").

2. A choice between:

·       Master’s thesis option

·       A Major Research Paper option, in
combination/in addition to a full
course equivalent on Asia-Pacific

·      A Thesis-equivalent research paper in an
independent research half-course. This
option must be combined with an additional
half-course on Asia-Pacific.
    
 

Every student is expected to have a working knowledge of an East or Southeast Asian language by the time of graduation.

The minimum period of enrollment in the Collaborative M.A. Program in Asia-Pacific Studies is normally 12 months, except for the Collaborative M.S.W. in Social Work, the Collaborative M.B.A. Program in Management, the Collaborative M.P.P. Program in Public Policy, and the Collaborative M.Sc.Pl. Program in Planning and Asia-Pacific Studies, which will take 2 years to complete. The time for completion of the program is expected to be:

  • Anthropology - 12 Months
  • East Asian Studies - 12 Months
  • Economics - 12 Months
  • Geography -12 Months
  • History - 12 Months
  • Managment - 24 Months
  • Planning - 24 Months
  • Political Science - 12 Months
  • Public Policy & Governance - 24 Months
  • Social Work - 12/24 Months
  • Sociology - 12 Months
  • Women and Gender Studies - 12 Months
